Mothercover, a new thriller by Fflur Dafydd on BBC Radio 4

Ever wondered what might happen if MI5 turned up at your baby group? Mothercover is a sharp, surprising new 5-part drama by BAFTA Cymru nominee Fflur Dafydd, airing weekly on BBC Radio 4 from Friday 29 August, with the box set available now on BBC Sounds.  Set in Aberystwyth, this thriller follows Gwen, a new mum recruited to spy on another parent – played by the brilliant Alexandra Roach (The Iron Lady, Killing Eve, Men Up).

Packed with twists, tension, and the messy overlap between prams and paranoia, the drama features a stellar cast including Remy Beasley, Sacha Dhawan, and Matthew Gravelle, with original music by Mercury Prize nominees Gwenno and Rhys Edwards.

Expect espionage with wet wipes, high-stakes secrets hidden beneath nappy bags, and a reminder that if you want something done, ask a mum.

Writer Fflur Dafydd said:

“The idea of mums being recruited as spies felt both thrilling and weirdly believable. We’re trusted, we multitask, we’re in baby groups spilling secrets, why not espionage too? Mothercover is my love letter to the chaos, comedy and quiet strength of motherhood, with a few covert missions thrown in.”

This 5-part drama series will be available first to listen to as a boxset on BBC Sounds, released weekly in the Limelight podcast and on BBC Radio 4 from Friday, August 29.

Mothercover follows hot on the heels of Fflur Dafydd’s critically acclaimed thriller novel The House of Water, released in May and hailed as one of this summer’s must-read psychological thrillers.
