Cysylltiadau Cyhoeddus Medi

Hay Festival, as ever, was an absolute delight.
There really is nothing quite like it! A place for book lovers, curious minds, big conversations and those of us who care deeply about culture, literature , politics, ideas and the stories that shape the world around us.

For me, attending Hay is also an important part of staying connected as a PR and communications agency. To do this work well, you need to listen beyond your own sector. You need to be in the room where conversations are happening about literature, current affairs, identity, technology, international politics, creativity and culture. Hay offers that in a way few festivals anywhere in Wales, the UK or the world can.

From Jeremy Bowen on the news of the day, Nicola Sturgeon discussing her new book, Lyse Doucet on Afghanistan, sessions on AI and the future of literature, to much needed belly laughs with Sarah Pascoe, it was a rich and energising few days.

It was also wonderful to see Carys Eleri bring such grace, warmth and knowledge to her events, and to hear Catrin Finch perform pieces from her new album live. Llongyfarchiadau mawr i’r ddwy.

And because we love Hay, and because it matters, one gentle thought for the future.

Hay on Wye may sit close to the border, but it is in Wales. While nobody expects an international festival of this scale to become fully bilingual, and there are welcome signs of Welsh presence through Welsh books, Welsh authors and more Welsh language content online, being there in person does make the quieter presence of the language feel louder each year.

Wales is becoming more confident in its roots, culture, politics, heritage and language. It would be lovely to see a little more of that reflected in the festival experience itself, in whatever way feels thoughtful and appropriate.

That comes from a place of deep respect for what Hay is. It remains one of the most enriching cultural gatherings we have, and it is always a privilege to attend. Diolch o galon am ŵyl arbennig arall 👏🙏

Working in PR means a lot of intense digital and screen time. And with the world getting so crazy, it’s easy to lose sight of creativity when your brain is full of news, nonsense and notifications.
A few days with Beryl the camper, fresh air, outdoor cooking, Scrabble, quizzes, drafts, big skies, small stops and the kind of conversations you only seem to have when nobody’s rushing anywhere sorts that right out.
I always think the good stuff comes back with you after a trip. Little ideas, clearer thoughts, better energy, a bit more perspective.
Big love to Beryl for being a dream, and to @miss_filmmaker for piloting us effortlessly around country lanes. Less impressed that she beat me at drafts, but we’ll deal with that privately.❤️

Lovely to meet up with @hywelacapela of @acapelastudiosofficial at Tabernacle Chapel in Barry yesterday to see first-hand the plans developing to transform this historic building into a new arts and music venue for the town.
Once a Welsh language chapel that has stood since 1894 and sadly closed its doors in December 2019, the space is now entering a new chapter rooted in music, creativity and community. Mae’n gyfle i greu man creadigol yng nghanol y dref, lle gall pobl y Barri a thu hwnt ddod at ei gilydd i rannu cerddoriaeth a mwynhau’r celfyddydau.
It feels like a meaningful investment in the cultural life of Barry, and we cannot wait to hear music filling the building once again. Cyffrous iawn!

End of last year we had the absolute joy of welcoming the brain doctor himself, bestselling author @drdeanburnett as a Medi PR client.

We worked together on developing his shiny new website in partnership with @neats33 and helping mark the ten year anniversary of his million selling global hit The Idiot Brain. A book about how messy our brains are that sold globally and made a lot of people feel better about their own.

We’ve just had our first meeting of the year and made a valiant attempt to get the new website in the background of the photo because we’re so proud of it. Great meeting. Crap framing.
